study in wc.

tonight was art night. chad set up a shoe still life for the kids to draw. i broke out the watercolors and sketched with paint and water. the kids picked some of the hydrangeas under the kitchen window earlier. i brought them down off the window sill and painted from life. i didn't manage to finish but i am happy with the study. i snapped a picture and will probably revisit it again. the kids had fun sketching chad's dress shoe but everyone was a bit tuckered tonight. here are the fruits of our labor. my watercolor study, the angle i sat at is looking down onto flowers more...

mr. dress shoe

charlie's shoe.
charlie is 4 and chose the graphite stick to draw with.
he says the rubbing is the shoe going 'thru the scanner'.

cosette's shoe complete with faeries and flowers.

this is kendall's shoe.
chad is trying to teach her to draw what she sees and not a shoe.

chad's sketch.

chad's shoe was used mainly to point things out to kendall. he and kendall both were very sleepy tonight. concentration came hard.

revisit.

balaam.
acrylic on gessoed panel.

sometimes i will revisit the work my husband and i did in college. this is a piece of his i have always admired. its a biblical illo of balaam and the angel sent to destroy him. i really like the angel. Chad captured its power and beauty nicely.

redbubble.

wow! i just came across a site that takes care of everything for you. you simply supply the files and prints can be ordered as cards, canvases, posters, laminates, or photo mounts with all the work done by them. oders have picked up for me on etsy. i have been so busy printing, packing, and shipping this week. plus, i'm not making much profit for all the labor. this sounds too good to be true, so i signed up ;) if it works then that would be super...of course, though they don't have fees i pay them...they do keep about 2/3 of the sale...on the other hand, i'm not laboring and spending my profit on fees and supplies. maybe etsy for all my originals and redbubble for my printwork? though my photos and cards have started selling on etsy...hmmm. for now i'm gonna leave off ebay and juggle etsy and redbubble. stop in and ck it out!

Thursday

custom.

orders have been steady. yay! had a few requests for custom pieces. its fun to see what ideas others have for me to make. i have this picture of a custom photo pendant i just finished using my photo, embrace. i am working on a custom silhouette order and i had a couple of custom cardset requests this past week. etsy is a great place to get custom work, lovely handmade stuffs!

Wednesday

painting.

another shot of the lily. this one was taken inside under studio lighting. i think i will do an 8x10 watercolor painting of this. it would look really nice on the white paper. i'll have to keep you posted. i haven't done a straight up painting in awhile.

Tuesday

splendor.

lily.
taken midmorning light after shower.

6 a.m.

when i engage myself in a great deal of artistic pursuits over a sustained duration, i find myself in 'the zone'. i am unaware of natural bodily appetites...the need for food, sleep, awareness of my surroundings...this can be a difficult thing for a stay at home mommy. last night i wrapped up my sale on etsy and got very busy getting orders completed...printing, sizing, cutting, mounting, packaging... so much so, that i never went to bed! my kids will be waking up and i am just winding down. this should make for a long, long day.

Monday

last chance.

today is the last day to save big on prints. all my prints, all my photos, all my custom card sets are 50% off...hurry, sale ends 5/25/09 at midnight cst.

gala.

gala apple.
quick sketch from life.

trying to move away from notebooks full of doodles and concentrate on more studied drawings from life. quick sketches are a great way to practice. for hubby's setup tonight, we sketched an apple on paper. don't tell him, but i think my sketch came out better than his ; )

Thursday

frugal eats.

redbeans and rice, spanish style...yum!

redbeans 'n rice (serves 4)
--------------------------------

1/2 lb of dry small red kidney beans, soaked and cooked firm
12 oz can of tomatoe paste
1-2 tblsp oil (canola)
4 oz can mild green chilies
1/2 large red onion, minced
1/4 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp chili powder
1 tblsp sugar
2 cups of water, more or less

add all ingredients to a crockpot. cook on low till onion and beans are tender but not mushy, approx. 4 hours. serve with rice. i use brown rice. so good and nutritious!

twodoors.

had some old doors in our garage. they may, at one time, have hung where we have now installed them. we have needed doors for two years now, on our room and charlie's. who else but a creative type could envision revamping this forlorn pair. paint and trim will be coming. at some point we'll be hardware hunting.

Wednesday

play.

three untitled shots.
digital photos taken mid afternoon.

we took a day trip to desoto state park and met my husband's grandparents for the day. i was hoping to get some photos of desoto falls but didn't manage to. after lunch, we stopped to let the kids play at the park. i found this playground pole an interesting subject worth a bit of my time.

Monday

luftballoon.

pendant in progress.
original mini-mini painting, luftballoon. 40x30mm.

notice my glue-y fingers? i initially attempted a mini collage and watercolor. the red paper i used kept bleeding. i applied glue to the watercolor, removed the paper balloon, and applied a dab of bright red acrylic. i will seal this with an acrylic cab once it is dry. lots of work for such a little piece.

Sunday

chowder.

my art for today, i made chowder. i like to cook in addition to painting and taking pictures. thought maybe i'd share my recipe with you. super yummy on a dreary day such as this...good on a sunny day too!

souped up corn chowder (serves 6 easily)
-------------------------------

2 tblsp oil
1 onion diced (red onion)
3 ribs celery diced
about a pound of ground beef (sirloin), cooked and drained

5-6 red potatoes washed and cubed
3-4 carrots peeled and half coined
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1tsp savory or poultry seasoning
1 clove garlic
1tsp cilantro

2 cans of creamed corn
2-3 cups of milk or cream (milk)
1/2 tsp paparika

combine meat mixture, vegetables, and seasoning in large stock pot. cover with 2 cups of water. cook until carrots and potatoes are tender. add corn and milk. stir occasionally to keep milk from scalding or sticking until heated through. serve with rolls, biscuits, or garlic bread. enjoy!

sherlock holmes in 22nd century.

i really like the aesthetics of steampunk, techno-victorian-futuristic-fantasy. ties in with my love of vintage and sci-fi. datamancer has some really cool inventions using modern components and vintage. i really like the nagy, magical-movable-typepixello-dynamotronic-computational-engine™. super! very sherlockesque. please check out his site
