Wednesday

Tuesday

yesterday a decade past.

i decided to finally photograph my college portfolio...it has taken me more than a decade. my husband and i recently found a calendar at hobby lobby put out by dayspring featuring the works of one of our art instructors, brian jekel. i miss school and regret never finishing my commercial art degree. this is a smattering of some of the work i accomplished while working towards that degree. i will need to reshoot these photos as the lighting was poor. the skull picture is an illustration i did for mr. jekel of the valley of dry bones in the book of ezekiel. this piece brought me my only a for the year in his class.

i decided to start with a small canvas, gesso on a piece of antique door. i don't paint with oil much and i generally work small. i didn't do a preliminary drawing. this is alla prima...but it isn't finished.

Monday

i am going to attempt a 24x30 oil painting of husband. this is the photo i will be using. he is going to be doing one of me also, same size and medium. the finished paintings will hang in our bedroom on either side of our bed in these lovely, frames we picked up sometime ago at the thrift store. i wanted something kinda modern and american gothic at the same time and i think these will fit the bill nicely.
